However, despite his troubling diagnosis as Trebek looks back on his life, there is only one thing he wished was different. More time with his wife, Jean Currivan Trebek. The couple has been married for almost 30-years, but that is not enough for the game show host. His one wish in life would be to have met his wife sooner than he did.

“I’m pretty satisfied with my life. But my wife Jean and I have been together almost 29 years, and I was thinking about President Bush when he died, and all the comments about his life about what a nice guy he is, and how he and his wife had been together 73 years.  I thought, oh my gosh, if I’d just met Jean in my 20s we could have had a longer life together,” he shared with People magazine.

Trebek quickly realized though that his lovely wife was not even born when he was in his 20’s She is 23 years younger than her famous husband. Jean is 54 and Alex is 78. The couple did meet when she was in her 20’s and has spent half her life with her loving husband.

The Jeopardy! host though is thrilled with getting to spend over three decades with his beautiful wife.

“But hey, 29 years is pretty good!” he exclaimed to the magazine after stating his initial life wish of wanting more time with Jean.

Alex is not only grateful for his time with Jean but for the family they created. The couple has two children together. Son Matthew is 29-years-old and owns the Mexican restaurant Oso in New York City. Daughter Emily is 27-years-old and works real estate in Los Angeles. The entire Trebek family is rallying around Alex as he bravely fights a terrifying disease, which sadly has a high mortality rate.

No, he is not speaking in the past tense or talking morbidly, Trebek is merely expressing the one thing about his life he would change. It is actually a pretty sweet sentiment, especially after all their years together.
