Jesse Tyler Ferguson & Justin Mikita Welcome Their First Child Together

Modern Family alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband, Justin Mikita, have welcomed their first child together, a son they named Beckett Mercer. The couple shared the news on Mikita’s Instagram page with a photo of a onesie from the Las Vegas hospital where Beckett was delivered that read “Vegas Born.”

“It’s Beckett, B—-!” Mikita wrote in the caption. “Thanks to the incredible team at Summerlin hospital – especially Collette. Thanks for taking care of us. Welcome to the world, Beckett Mercer. We love you more than I could’ve ever dreamed of.”

The 34-year-old also thanked everyone for their messages and congratulations, and added that he and Ferguson were “over the moon.”

A rep for Ferguson and Mikita told People magazine that the proud dads welcomed their “little bundle of joy” on Tuesday, July 7. His full name is Beckett Mercer Ferguson-Mikita, and the new parents are “overjoyed and excited for this new journey as a family of three.”

Ferguson -who recently finished his 11-season run on Modern Family as uptight lawyer Mitchell Pritchett – first shared the news that he and Mikita, a real-life attorney, were expecting a baby back in January when he appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The 44-year-old excitedly told Corden and fellow guest Charlie Hunnam that he had something to share and he hadn’t even mentioned it to anyone yet.

“If we could just keep it between the three of us and you all, but I’m actually expecting a baby in July with my husband,” revealed Ferguson.

At the time, Ferguson wouldn’t reveal the baby’s gender, but he promised that the baby would be “human.” He admitted at the time that he was “excited” for the birth of his first child, but he also joked that it was time to “get this show going” because of his age.

Just before the COVID-19 lockdown, Ferguson and Mikita threw a poolside baby shower that featured a performance from Aquawillies, a male synchronized swimming group. The theme of the shower was “Sh*t Just Got Real,” and Ferguson’s Modern Family co-stars Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland were on the guest list.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita got engaged in 2012 during a vacation in Mexico after dating for nearly two years. They tied the knot in July 2013 in a ceremony that took place in downtown New York City.
