WWE superstar John Cena has been the king of the wrestling ring for nearly two decades, but the 42-year-old is thinking that now might be the time for him to retire. Could Cena’s WWE days be coming to an end so he can focus on his movie career?

Cena was recently out and about in New York City, and when TMZ’s Adam Glyn asked him about the recent match between The Undertaker and Bill Goldberg – and how fans are calling for both wrestlers to retire – Cena said that it wasn’t his place to comment on other wrestlers, and retirement is a personal choice.

However, he did admit that retirement is something he has been thinking about; and, considering he will be starring in Fast & Furious 9, it might happen sooner rather than later.

“It’s an amazing opportunity and an amazing set of circumstances – something I thought would never happen,” said Cena. “ I’m very grateful to Vin Diesel for certainly orchestrating it all and making it happen,”

Cena – who has starred in Bumblebee and Blockers – said he is excited to be a part of the Fast & Furious franchise, and there are countless ways to describe the upside of this unexpected movie role. The wrestler-turned-actor said that he is a car guy, and that is what the franchise is built off of. But, it’s how they weave the family narrative in with larger-than-life action that has made it such a global success.

“They’re constantly redefining the franchise but not redefining the ethos,” said Cena. “Literally, I’m surrounded by a group of people who are better than I am and such skilled people with so much experience, so what a great environment to learn from. It really is a tremendous opportunity.”

During an interview last year with Entertainment Weekly, the interviewer told Cena that he would be perfect for Fast & Furious, and he said that would be a “dream.” Apparently, Vin Diesel had the same idea, and he posted a video on Instagram in April that had fans talking about Cena possibly joining the cast.

Cena says that the interview with Entertainment Weekly sparked the conversation, and Diesel’s post had some influence on him getting the role because it started an “avalanche of opportunity rolling.” John Cena promises everyone who loves the Fast & Furious franchise that he will give his absolute best in the new movie, which starts filming soon.
