John Singleton 'Boyz N The Hood' Academy-Award Nominated Director Reportedly Suffered A Stroke

John Singleton, the award-winning and Oscar-nominated director, producer, and writer behind films such as Boyz n the Hood and Poetic Justice has reportedly suffered a mild stroke. Making history by becoming the youngest person ever nominated for the best director Oscar as well as the first black man to be nominated, John Singleton is highly revered throughout the industry for his work.

Singleton celebrated his 51st birthday on January 6, 2019. His condition remains unknown but reportedly currently hospitalized at Cedars Sinai hospital. Fans and celebrities are pouring out their prayers and well wishes on social media networks as they wish Singleton a speedy and complete recovery.

According to TMZ, their source states that Singleton suffered the stroke and is currently undergoing rehab.

TMZ reported the following.

“The legendary director and screenwriter is in the hospital … we’ve learned he checked himself in earlier this week after experiencing weakness in his leg. A family member tells TMZ, John had flown back from Costa Rica and the plane flight may have triggered the medical emergency. We’re told doctors are performing tests and also doing rehab. The stroke was described to us as ‘mild.'”

Singleton has a number of projects in the works and is the creator of the hit television series Snowfall that airs on FX. Though Singleton has many works to his credit, it is Boyz n the Hood for which defined his career and is viewed as launching the careers of many others.

Prayers for John Singleton went up across all social media platforms with Nia Long tweeting the following.

“Praying hard this morning for my friend @johnsingleton PULL THROUGH BABY ❤️”

Omar Epps tweeted the following after news that John Singleton suffered a stroke hit the public.

“Prayers up for @SHAFT6816 🙏🏾🙏🏾 Pull thru brother! The world needs your voice and vision. Prayers up for your family as well 🙏🏾🙏🏾.”

An official statement on John Singleton’s current health status or what may have caused a stroke has yet to be revealed.

As John Singleton reportedly remains hospitalized and is in rehab to get back to a state of health, fans worldwide are praying not just for him but for his family as well.
