Jussie Smollett Case To Go Before Grand Jury — 'It Was Like A Bad Spy Movie' Says Report

While police try to keep up with the speedy flow of leaked information to the public regarding the Jussie Smollett case, TMZ and CBS Chicago have provided many updates. On January 29, 2019, Jussie Smollett came forward with the allegation that he had been the victim of a homophobic, racist attack that involved two men placing a noose around his neck, pouring bleach on him, and shouting racist and gay slurs at him.

Approximately one week before the attack, Smollett stated he received threatening letters that featured a hand-drawing stick figure with a gun pointed towards the head. The FBI is still working on this angle. According to a breaking report by TMZ, the case is going to a grand jury this week.

CNN states that two Nigerian brothers named Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo were taken in for questioning, cooperated with police and had their homes raided. The two were let go without charge and reports leaked that they had given information to authorities that Jussie Smollett orchestrated the attack and even paid for the rope that was used as a noose.

Jussie Smollett’s legal team denies that allegation and claims that Smollett is a victim of a racist, homophobic crime.

The public is calling for Jussie’s prosecution should it be proved he lied and was involved in staging the attack. It’s important to remember that at this point in time, the sources claiming Jussie Smollett was involved in staging the MAGA hate crime and attack remain unnamed.

According to a new report by TMZ, the case is going before a grand jury, possibly this week. While reports surrounding the alleged attack have been serious and grim, there have been moments of humor that have surfaced during the whirlwind reporting.

Unfortunately for Jussie, this case is turning into a social media circus full of memes, one-liners, and people who identify as MAGA who are growing angrier and more outraged by the minute.

TMZ reported that officers weren’t quick to believe Jussie’s report because MAGA people don’t watch Empire.

And, there’s this. We’re told investigators didn’t believe the 2 alleged attackers screamed, “This is MAGA country,” because, “Not a single Trump supporter watches Empire.”

TMZ continued with their reporting.

“We’re told the way they tracked the 2 brothers down was by their movements in arriving and leaving the scene around Jussie’s apartment building. As we reported, they left in either a cab or an Uber, but we’re told cops tracked the vehicle and the 2 brothers got out on their way home and into another vehicle. As one source put it, “It was almost like a bad spy movie.”
