Justin Bieber recently found himself the target of social media critics again following unearthed tweets from the past in which he made comments regarding ethnic minorities.

The star took to his Twitter earlier this week to say that he wanted to play a role in the fight against racism, however, some people online pointed out things he said in the past.

On his Instagram account this Tuesday, Justin stated that at that time of his old tweets, he was “uneducated” and would use particular words without actually knowing what they meant or how they made others feel. Bieber added he wanted to use his voice to remind others everyone is equal before God.

In another post, the star explained he was making new goals before heading into the Christmas holidays. The star claims he wanted to commit to the idea of owning all of his shortcomings and doing something about it.

As it was previously reported, Justin came under fire in 2014 when a video surfaced of him using the N-word for a racist joke. Page Six reported in 2014 that Justin was a teenager when the video was first created. Following the backlash, he went to Will Smith and Usher for guidance.

“He’s now a 20-year-old who’s taken responsibility,” his rep said at the time. Additionally, other videos were shown online in which the singer made more racist jokes, including a song in which he changed the lyrics to “one less lonely n*gger,” and also joked about becoming a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Reported first by CNN, the singer released a statement in which he explained he was unaware of the impact of his words, as well as his influence on the world and younger generations. At the time, the performer stated that he realized he was only furthering ignorance and racial insensitivity.

This comes after Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey Bieber, got married in a wedding ceremony during the summer months. The two Biebers got together in a South Carolina hotel and tied the knot officially before their friends and family after first getting their marriage license in September of 2018.
