Democrats and Republicans alike are calling for the resignation of Virginia Governor Ralph Northam after yearbook photos showing two men dressed in racist garb surfaced. One man was dressed in blackface while the other was covered head to toe in a Ku Klux Klan robe and KKK hood. Exactly which costume Governor Northam donned remains to be seen but both were racist and have triggered harsh reactions across the aisle. Two unlikely people whom you might think would never agree on anything have found common ground. Both Kamala Harris and James Woods have called for Virginia Governor Ralph Northan’s resignation.

The photos surfaced at the beginning of Black History Month and went viral after the Virginian Pilot Online covered the story. James Woods didn’t hold back with his feelings about Kamala Harris, based on their political differences, but he praised her for speaking out against Governor Northam.

Some have expressed worry that political differences will impact how people view the situation. Since Governor Northam is a Democrat, there are those who feel other Democrats might not take a strong stance. Kamala Harris made it clear that her political beliefs were not going to interfere with her position on Northam.

Things grew tense when CNN’s Anderson Cooper covered the story and people noticed that the network had mistakenly referred to Governor Northam as a Republican and not a Democrat. Video footage of the clip went viral and not everyone believed it was an accident. Many people expressed the belief that CNN is so willing to skewer the news so that it is favorable towards Democrats and portrays Republicans in a negative light that they purposefully referred to the Virginia governor as a Republican.

Governor Northam released a statement via video that he shared on multiple social media platforms. Though he apologized for his actions, he has made it clear that he has no plans to leave the governorship. Calls for his resignation continue to grow and many have stated they are not satisfied with his apology or actions.
