According to sources who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, Kanye West backed out of Coachella due to not getting the type of stage he wanted for the event. It was reported previously that Kanye wasn’t happy with the traditional format, which an insider described as being as old as Shakespeare.

However, The Hollywood Reporter revealed more details today. Reportedly, Goldenvoice, the parent company of Coachella, said that the dome he wanted to build in four months would require much of the portable bathrooms to be removed.

When the AEG-owned concert promoter told Kanye they couldn’t build his stage, sources say he became agitated. On the 1st of January, just a couple of days before Paul Tollett was going to announce West’s inclusion, the Ye artist announced he had changed his mind.

Kanye requested for Tollett to build a gigantic dome in the middle of the grounds designed by both West and John McGuire – the set designer.

When they told him the stage would be impossible to build in four months without eliminating far too many port-a-potties, the rapper said he was an artist and couldn’t spend his time discussing portable bathrooms.

An insider who spoke with Billboard said Kanye had spoken with Goldenvoice while on vacation and suddenly hung up on them. Before the day ended, Goldenvoice chatted with Ariana Grande’s representation to see if she would take his spot.

As it was previously reported, Scooter Braun, one of the biggest managers in pop music, called off his business partnership with Kanye West in December of last year. It’s the second time they’ve severed ties.

Approximately 24 hours after Kanye pulled out of the event, Grande was established as the act for the final night. Tame Impala, an Australian rock band, was also put into the top headliner spot in December to replace Mr. Justin Timberlake, who had to back out due to damaged vocal cords.

Coachella has become one of the biggest concert festivals in the world, if not the biggest, and regularly earns stars between $2 million and $5 million. As a result, organizers aren’t as quick to give into artist demands as they once were.
