Yesterday, the Colombian singer, Karol G, apologized after social media users became enraged when she used her dog in an attempt to express her support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Page Six reported today that the 29-year-old performing artist took to her Twitter on the 1st of June to post a black and white photograph of her French Bulldog. In her native Spanish language, she wrote in the caption of the photo that it was the perfect example of black and white working together.

Even though her intentions were good, many people weren’t pleased with the fact that she used her dog as a means to support the movement. One Twitter user described her as “tone-deaf,” and urged someone to “educate her.”

Another person went on to apologize on the behalf of Karol G, stating that she really did use a picture of a dog to portray the black community. Other people, on the other hand, argued in her favor and said that the photo meant well and was cute.

Not long after Twitter users came for Karol G, the performing artist deleted the tweet and released an apology in which she expressed remorse for using her dog to convey her thoughts.

Karol G went on to say that what she meant to say is there is only one “race,” and she thinks racism is “terrible.” Additionally, Karol G expressed her support for the protests happening around the world at the moment.

This all comes after the death of George Floyd while under police custody in Minneapolis last Monday. The event took place not long after the United States began reopening states one-by-one depending on the severity of COVID-19 in the state and city.

The protests have also sparked action among other members of the music community, including The Weeknd, who revealed he was donating a half-million dollars to a number of pro-black organizations, including Black Lives Matter.
