As royal fans know, Kate Middleton will one day be the Queen consort when her husband Prince William is crowned King. But that doesn’t mean Kate has “an intimate relationship” with the Queen Elizabeth says a royal expert.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, has been covering the royal family for more than thirty years, and she has also written more than 20 books about them. She says that the Queen and her granddaughter-in-law don’t have much in common, which is why they aren’t extremely close.

However, just because they aren’t close friends, it doesn’t mean they don’t get along. Seward explained that the two women have a formal relationship, which is focused on their royal duties.

“I think the queen and Kate have a more serious relationship as obviously Kate holds all the queen’s hope for the future and she would not want to do anything to upset that,” explained Seward. “The common bond with Kate would be her children, and I can’t imagine the queen spending too much time talking about them; she is a very shy woman.”

As for the Queen’s relationship with Meghan Markle, Seward says that the two women already have a growing bond even though the Duchess of Sussex has only been a part of the royal family for a little over a year.

It only took a month for Queen Elizabeth to invite Markle on their first official engagement together, compared to eight years for Middleton. And, when the Queen and the Duchess of Sussex were in Cheshire for their appearance together, cameras spotted the two royals giggling and whispering to each other like good friends.

Seward says that Meghan and the Queen have a lot in common, including their love of dogs. Plus, the Duchess of Sussex knows how to make the Queen laugh. But the monarch does think very highly of Middleton, too, and she has made that clear by passing on her role as patron of the Royal Photographic Society to the Duchess of Cambridge.

According to Fox News, Queen Elizabeth had been the patron of the society since she was crowned Queen in 1952. The role is a perfect fit for Middleton, who is an “enthusiastic amateur photographer” who studied art history at the University of St. Andrews.

Royal expert Rebecca Long says that the Queen Elizabeth is preparing Kate Middleton for her future role as Queen consort, and their relationship is all about royal life and the future of the monarchy.
