Kathy Griffin experienced some severe backlash after her infamous Trump photo, but she does not regret it. She would do it all over again to make the same political statement. The comedian opened up on CBS Sunday Morning about the backlash she received from the incident.
In 2017 a photo featuring Griffin holding a mask of President Donald Trump dripping with what appeared to be fake blood went viral. She is no stranger to controversy, but this time it was much larger than she expected or could have ever imagined. At the time Griffin made it clear it was a political statement, but it ultimately backfired.
“I never in my lifetime thought anything like this could happen,” she said on the morning show.

Although the comedian immediately went into crisis mode and sent a video apologizing for her actions. It was too little too late; the damage was done. Griffin’s comedy tour was canceled. She lost a couple of endorsement deals and found herself under investigation for conspiracy to assassinate the President of the United States. The reality TV star even received daily death threats.
Griffin took her comedy tour overseas, where she was a huge success. But she knows she will never have another television gig. The controversial star will also likely never be part of an endorsement deal, as those are no longer options for her. The comedian used her story to create the comedy special Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story, but she has had a difficult time finding a distributor.
Despite what she put herself through, Kathy Griffin does not have any regrets.
“I’ve learned so much. I think a lot of people would love it if I said, ‘Oh, I wish I had never taken that picture. I wish I had never cursed. I wish I had never made this comment or that comment.’ But the most important thing that I hope people see is that, long after I kick the bucket, they see the crazy red-haired lady didn’t go down,” revealed the 58-year-old.
Griffin is done apologizing, and she doesn’t need people to feel sorry for her. After all, she still lives in a fabulous Bel-Air mansion, with her two rescue dogs. Griffin has a slew of friends, including actor Jim Carrey, who is always there for her and of course therapy. The actress may be down, and she may still be getting death threats, but she is not out.
