In one of the most iconic comedy scenes in movie history, Steve Carell yells “Ahhhh, Kelly Clarkson!” during the 2005 film 40-Year-Old Virgin when he is in immense pain while getting his chest waxed. And, 14 years later The Office star surprised fans when he walked through the stage doors of The Kelly Clarkson Show to launch the talk show with an epic homage to the memorable scene.

“Live on tape from Universal Studios in Hollywood, ladies and gentleman, ahhhhh, Kelly Clarkson,” Carell screamed.

During promos throughout the weekend, Clarkson revealed that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be her first guest instead of Kevin Hart, as she had originally planned. After his terrible car accident on Labor Day weekend, Hart wasn’t able to make it to the taping, so his good friend took time out from his honeymoon to step in and take his place.

But, no one had any idea that Carell would make the brief appearance at the beginning of the episode, and the audience went wild when he walked onto the stage. After Carell’s introduction, Clarkson appeared and sang an opening number like she plans to do for every episode. For the premiere, she chose a cover of the Dolly Parton classic 9 to 5.

In addition to a lot of singing and A-list guests, Clarkson filled her audience with working women, many of whom have jobs that are traditionally viewed as masculine. And, she also had a segment called “Rad Human,” where she celebrated people who are doing awesome things in their community.

Her first “Rad Human” was a woman named Sharon who runs the Sunshine Pantry in Beaverton, Oregon. Unfortunately, Sharon had to close the food pantry due to lack of funding, but members of her community showed up and showered her with $20,000 cash.

Clarkson wrapped up her first show by Skyping with moms who went viral with a social media post, and they talked to Clarkson while drinking wine.

The big-name guests will continue during Clarkson’s first week, including John Legend, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Garner, and Chance the Rapper.
