Kenya Moore Opens Up About Becoming A Mom At 47 & Reveals How She Is Helping Other Women Have Their Own 'Miracle Baby'

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore knows the “anguish” a woman feels to think that she might not be able to have a child. The former Miss USA waited until 47 to have her “miracle baby,” and her path to motherhood wasn’t easy. This has sparked a desire in Moore to help other families.

After marrying her husband – Marc Daly – in the summer of 2017, Moore underwent IVF treatment. The couple welcomed their daughter, Brooklyn Doris, in November 2018, and Moore says her daughter is a “miracle” on “so many levels.”

“I didn’t want to have a child on my own. I did not want to be a single mother. And so I waited and then after 40, I looked up and I thought, ‘Oh my God,’ ” explained Moore to People magazine.

Her later-in-life pregnancy wasn’t her only obstacle. Moore gave birth to Brooklyn a month-and-a-half preterm, and she also suffered from preeclampsia. During the C-section, doctors cut Moore both horizontally and vertically in order to avoid the fibroids, which could have resulted in her bleeding out.

On top of that, Moore’s cesarean lasted three hours, a procedure that usually takes about 30 minutes.

“I call her my miracle baby because this was the child that everyone pretty much said it was slim to none for me to be able to have,” said Moore. “Every week, I held my breath, because I didn’t know if she would survive.”

Brooklyn is almost two-years-old now, and the 49-year-old says that her daughter “could not be better.” She says that she is a “happy baby,” and has been since the moment she was born.

The RHOA star now wants to help families in her hometown of Detroit become parents, and she has sponsored a grant through the Baby Quest Foundation to assist with the costs of assisted conception.

The “Gift of Life” grant will provide financial assistance to couples who struggle with fertility, and who are looking to expand their families via alternate methods like IVF or surrogacy.

Kenya Moore and Marc Daly announced their split in September 2019, but she says that they are trying “everything to stay together.”
