The KUWTK star compared herself with the beloved Disney character and people on social media were not at all happy about it as they were quick to let her know! Kourtney Kardashian got some backlash as soon as she shared a number of bathing suit pics on her platform, captioning them as: ‘Moana of Motunui.’
Obviously, Kourtney’s family trip to a tropical private island for sister Kim’s 40th birthday got her to feel like one with the sea but her Moana comparison did not sit well with many of her followers.
‘I am Moana of Motunui,’ she declared alongside the carousel post, using the famous line from the Disney animated movie.
The mother of three was rocking a black bathing suit and she looked as stunning as ever but the caption was what really grabbed people’s attention and not for the best of reasons.
Some critics made it clear they were not Okay with the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star referring to herself as the Polynesian princess in the comment section.
‘Um… no you’re not lmao not even close,’ one user mocked her while another pointed out that ‘No, you are not. You are White!’
A third user also argued: ‘nah pls stop appropriating indigenous island culture/ community do better.’
Of course, while there was plenty of criticism, there were many compliments as well!
Fans of the reality TV celeb praised her looks and her choice of bikini, telling the Kardashian that her pics were ‘fire’ and more!
Some called her a total ‘babe’ as well, obviously too impressed by her looks to care about the caption, which they did not perceive as such a huge problem.
As for the private island celebration of Kim’s birthday, sister Khloe shared while on Ellen that ‘This year is a frustrating year, I get it. There’s so many frustrations for everybody, but also….this is her 40th. And this is something she really wanted to do for us. And being there with all the precautions we took and how grateful everyone was for the tourism aspect of it….so many people said we were their first party or guests that they’ve had in months and it’s helped them pay their bills and do stuff for their families. We felt really good.’
