Lark Voorhies has had a tough time since the original Saved By the Bell ended due to her mental health struggle. After it was announced that the show would be brought back again, Lark was transparent about how she felt being left out.
Accompanied by her caretaker and mother, Voorhies revealed to Dr. Oz that she struggles with Schizoaffective thought disorder.
Additionally, she cleared up any rumors of drug use. This interview was not long after the Saved By The Bell reboot was gaining traction and almost filming.
Lark, at the time, wasn’t asked back to the show which broke her heart. Not only did she enjoy being on the program but she genuinely considered her castmates to be her family.
‘I have to admit I did feel a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of the Saved by the Bell reunion as well as other cast members’ events, yet of course, I also realized that having this puzzling disorder may have played a major part in that factual decision. With that in mind, I am truly thankful for having had the chance to work on a show that has been so successful.’
Luckily, producers did the right thing and asked her to cameo which she announced in a surprise post on Instagram when the series dropped on Peacock recently.
She offered an update on how that came together.
‘I have you to thank for the wonderful exposure on your show that contributed to the SBTB producers rethinking my value to the production. It’s always so good to be understood and be able to come home! Yes, SBTB is home to me,’ she told Dr. Oz in her Thursday appearance.
Her co-star also reacted with compassion.
‘I received a call from Elizabeth Berkley, who plays Jessie. She sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. And we had a great time shooting it.’
The actor’s mother added that she believes her daughter having this job again certainly helped with her diagnosis and maintaining her mental health by keeping her busy with a job that she loves.
It’s great to see Lisa Turtle back on the small screen again.
