In an interview with Michael Rosenbaum on his podcast, Inside Of You, Macaulay Culkin said to the host that he and Michael Jackson had a completely normal friendship when they knew each other.
According to a report from The Huffington Post, the two stars sat down and spoke about life, Hollywood, acting, his time as a star, as well as the allegations against Michael. Culkin said Jackson had reached out to him because he understood what it was like to be a child star, which Macaulay was at the time.
Culkin admitted that it was easy to merely call it “weird,” but the truth is they were friends. Around the time Culkin and Jackson became acquainted, his career was taking off in a gigantic way with the massive success of the series in which he starred, Home Alone.
Rosenbaum spoke about the enormous age gap between them, and Culkin said he was a “peerless person” when he was a kid, and Jackson had dealt with similar experiences. When they became friends, Culkin was 10-years-old, while Jackson was 32-years-old.
Macaulay described his experiences growing up as quite exceptional, in the sense that he didn’t know anyone else who was in his situation. He was practically born famous, and he grew up in the public’s eye. Michael empathized with that, and that’s why their friendship blossomed.
Culkin described the legendary King of Pop as “hilarious” and “sweet.” When they hung out, Michael would prank call people, showing off his comedic chops in the process. The Home Alone alum described him as “charming, f*cking funny, and silly.”
The actor famously defended Michael Jackson during his trial in 2005, in which Culkin described the accusations against him as “absolutely ridiculous.” However, Culkin did admit to sharing a bed with Mr. Jackson, but nothing bad ever happened.
The Guardian reported at the time that Culkin said, “he never molested me. I think I’d realize if something like that had happened.” According to the Home Alone alum, he and Jackson met for the very first time when the actor was performing in The Nutcracker.
Interestingly, during his appearence on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast last year, Culkin said Jackson and Donald Trump came backstage because “they were friendly back then.”
