Actress Maddie Corman (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Some Kind of Wonderful, Smash) appeared on ABC’s The View on Thursday, March 21, 2019, where she discussed her new off-Broadway play Accidentally Brave. The autobiographical play is Maddie Corman’s journey through the realization her husband, actor Jace Alexander was arrested for downloading and sharing child pornography. Jace Alexander (Crocodile Dundee II, Warehouse 13) is the son of actress Jane Alexander (The Ring, Kramer vs Kramer).

After Jace Alexander’s child pornography arrest two notable things happened: The state of New York gave him a sentence of 10 years probation and Maddie Corman decided to stay with him.

The couple has been married since 1998 and has three children.

You may see Maddie Corman’s full interview on The View in the video player below and while the play is called Accidentally Brave the home viewing audience did not feel that was the appropriate word to use.

YouTube comments and those on Twitter immediately attacked Corman for her decision to stay with Jace Alexander following his child pornography arrest and they labeled her a “pedophile apologist.” They also questioned why The View had her on the show in the first place.

If you watch the interview, you may notice a distinct lack of applause when Maddie Corman finishes speaking throughout the interview. Only the final applause at the conclusion of the interview is heard.

The public response to Maddie Corman’s interview most likely did not go as planned. It’s unclear if Corman has experienced negative backlash from her off-Broadway one-woman show, but there is plenty of criticism coming after her appearance on The View to let her know that middle-America does not agree with her platform.

One comment on YouTube reads as follows.

“Someone call social services – this lady and her husband should NOT have custody of their children!!!!”

Another user questioned why she was calling her play “Brave.”

“Perhaps a more appropriate title would be “Intentionally Stupid” instead of “Accidentally Brave”!”

What do you think about Maddie Corman and her interview? Do you agree with those who say “Brave” is not the word to use when staying with a husband convicted of downloading and sharing child pornography? Do you think Maddie Corman made the right decision to support and stay with her husband?
