Margot Robbie, who’s currently in the middle of promoting her latest film, Bombshell, has been an open book regarding the character and how she approached it. During a conversation with Variety, the 29-year-old Once Upon A Time in Hollywood star stated the character was actually “sexually fluid.”
In the film, Margot’s character hooks up with Jess, portrayed by Kate McKinnon, who also happened to be a lesbian, although, she hasn’t come out of the closet yet. Margot, regarding the line in the movie about not being a lesbian, says she wanted it to appear as “genuine” and non-sarcastic as possible.
According to Robbie, she wants producers and a film studio to make a movie about Kayla and Jess, and how they go on a road trip with their diametrically opposed political perspectives and mutual romantic feelings. Margot speculated the character “compartmentalizes” her attraction to women.

According to the movie’s Wikipedia page, Bombshell, directed by Jay Roach, and penned by Charles Randolph, loosely explores the allegations of three different women who worked at Fox News and worked together to expose the CEO for sexual harassment.
Starring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, the movie is supposed to revolve around the accusations levied against Roger Ailes, the late CEO of the network. Stars such as Allison Janney, Malcolm McDowell, Connie Britton, Kate McKinnon, and John Lithgow also portray supporting characters.
Back in May of 2017, the movie was first announced not long after Roger Ailes died. Reports confirmed Roach as the director in 2018. The movie was released on the 20th of December, by Lionsgate.
Thus far, Bombshell has enjoyed relatively positive reviews, with most noting the performances of Robbie, Lithgow, Kidman, and Theron.
However, some have criticized the accuracy of some of the points in the movie. Theron and Robbie both received Best Actress nominations at the Golden Globe Awards. It also scored a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards.
