Matt Damon Reveals His Daughter Had COVID-19, And Now She's Fully Recovered

Matt Damon has been living with his family in the village of Dalkey in Dublin, Ireland, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and he recently opened up about how his family has been handling life during the lockdown. During an interview with Spin 1083’s Fully Charged with Graham & Nathan radio show, the Ford v. Ferrari star revealed that his oldest daughter, Alexia, actually contracted the novel coronavirus, but she has since recovered.

Damon explained that he was shooting The Last Duel on location when the COVID-19 lockdown started, and that has forced him and his family to stay in Ireland until the restrictions are lifted. Damon is in Ireland with his wife, Luciana, and three of their daughters – Isabella, 13, Gia, 11, and Stella, 9. However, Alexia, 21 (Luciana’s daughter from a previous relationship) is sheltering-in-place in New York City, which is where she goes to college.

The Oscar-winner said that Alexia contracted COVID-19, but she “got through it fine.”

“She had COVID really early on, along with her roommates,” Damon said. “We’re going to go back to Los Angeles and she’s [Alexia] going to come out, so we’ll all be together and figure out what the heck we’re going to do. It’s such an odd limbo that we’re all in.”

Damon made it clear that everyone was okay, but he and his wife are still concerned for their parents because the virus is “scary for that generation.” He says that everyone has received the message at this point, and they are all doing everything they can to mitigate this – isolation, practicing social distancing, and washing their hands. Still, Damon says the situation is “frightening” for his and his wife’s parents.

During the interview, Damon also talked about his 2011 movie Contagion, which has noticeably made its way up the iTunes charts since the lockdown began. Damon says this entire thing is “tragic and sad,” but he hopes some good can come out of it.

Matt Damon pointed out that we are lucky the virus hasn’t been as lethal as it could have been, so maybe this was a “good dry run for the big one” that might happen in the future. The 49-year-old said that these things do come along every few decades, so it’s best that we are ready for it.
