Matthew McConaughey Is The Newest Film Professor At University of Texas

Matthew McConaughey is the newest film professor at his alma mater the University of Texas.

The Magic Mike stud is taking all of his acting talents and hoping to help others gain knowledge from his experience. An official announcement from The University of Texas at Austin was released on Wednesday afternoon. The Moody College of Communications has appointed McConaughey “professor of practice.” He is now part of the faculty of the Department of Radio-Television-Film.

Now, as it turns out, McConaughey has already been teaching at the school. The actor has been co-teaching the Script to Screen film production class alongside faulty member Scott Rice since 2015.

“It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school. Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them. Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus,” the 49-year-old actor shared with Entertainment Tonight regarding his new position.

The Oscar winner earned a degree from the University of Texas in 1993. McConaughey has always been a proud graduate of his alma mater, as well as his home state. The school is thrilled to have such a high-profile Hollywood star teaching young adults.

“We are proud to welcome Professor McConaughey to officially join our world-class faculty. Matthew cares deeply for our school and our students, and we are thrilled that he shares his time and talent to help prepare the next generation of media leaders and innovators,” shared Jay Bernhardt, the Dean of Moody College in a statement announcing the actor’s new position.

Fans should not worry that Matthew McConaughey’s new position will take him away from the acting world. Although he has scaled back on projects in recent years to focus on his family, McConaughey is not leaving Hollywood behind.

He is starring with Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Henry Golding, Colin Farrell, and Michelle Dockery in the Guy Ritchie film The Gentlemen. It is a crime caper that will hit theaters on January 24, 2020.

Students attending the University of Texas at Austin this fall just might find themselves being taught by one of the hottest actors around. McConaughey is thrilled to continue giving back to the school who taught him so much.
