Meg Ryan And John Mellencamp Have Reportedly Split After Actress Spotted Sans Engagement Ring

Rumors have swirled about a possible split between Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp before, but this time it looks like it’s the real deal. After cameras spotted the Sleepless in Seattle star walking the red carpet without her engagement ring at the 11th Annual Governors Awards gala in Hollywood over the weekend, insiders are claiming that Ryan and Mellencamp have officially called it quits.

Us Weekly is reporting that it was Ryan who called off the engagement and ended her eight-year relationship with Mellencamp.

“She’d had enough and ended [their engagement],” claims an insider. “She has no regrets.”

The 57-year-old actress was first linked to Mellencamp back in 2011, and the two have had an on-again, off-again relationship ever since. They were together for three years before breaking up in 2014, but just a few months later the couple reconciled.

However, they split again in 2015 only to reconcile once more in 2017. Before they reunited, the Jack & Diane singer told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show in March 2017 that he would never get back together with Ryan.

“Oh, women hate me. I loved Meg Ryan. She hates me to death,” said Mellencamp. “I think it’s because I’m a child. I throw fits, I gripe, I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me.”

In November 2018, Ryan announced on Instagram that she was engaged to the 68-year-old rock legend by posting an illustration of the two along with the caption, “ENGAGED!”

Ryan has been married once before. She and Dennis Quaid married in 1991 and were together for ten years before they divorced. They share one son – Jack Quaid – who stars as Hugh Campbell on the Amazon Prime series The Boys. The When Harry Met Sally star is also the mom of a daughter named Daisy.

Mellencamp has been married three times and has five children, including Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp.

This past summer, Ryan said that she was going to get married at some point, but for now her engagement was a “state of grace.” She said that the great thing about being engaged in her 50s meant that she and Mellencamp are free to have fun.

“Maybe that freedom is about being a million years old. But I sometimes think relationships are for aliens. Who does it? Who can do it? I don’t know how any of us ever do,” said Ryan.

Neither Meg Ryan nor John Mellencamp have confirmed their split.
