A new tell-all book about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the British royal family claims that Markle and Kate Middleton have had plenty of “awkward moments” during their relationship. However, the sisters-in-law have never been “at war with each other” like some UK tabloids have claimed.
In a new excerpt from the upcoming biography Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand write about the tension between Prince Harry and Prince William, as well as Meghan and Kate’s relationship.

“Though it was not necessarily her responsibility, Kate did little to bridge the divide,” write Scobie and Durand. They noted that the ladies have had some “awkward moments,” but they “were not at war with each other.”
The new book – which features interviews with Harry and Meghan’s friends – claims that Middleton has never felt like she had much in common with Markle, other than the fact that they both lived at Kensington Palace.
Despite previous reports to the contrary, Harry and Meghan did not give any interviews or take part in the new book in any way. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made it clear last week in a statement that the couple didn’t not contribute to Finding Freedom.
“This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting,” said the rep.
The biography reportedly chronicles the early days of Meghan and Harry’s relationship, which moved quickly once they went public in September 2017. Speculation had begun months earlier, but the couple didn’t step out together until that year’s Invictus Games.

The book explores everything from their fast-moving romance to the tension between Prince Harry and Prince William to Meghan’s broken relationship with her father, Thomas. It will also include how they came to their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family and move to the United States with their son, Archie Harrison.
Prince Harry “felt that there were so many occasions when the institution and his family could have helped them, stood up for them, backed them up, and never did,” a source told the book’s authors in a previous excerpt published in The Times of London.
