Meghan Markle traveled to New York City for a girl’s trip that included her closest pals throwing her a baby shower. Since becoming engaged to Prince Harry in 2017, Markle has proven she is doing Royal her way. Her five-day visit to celebrate her first child is another example of that, but has she once again bucked Royal tradition?
It is the first time since becoming the Duchess of Sussex that she has returned to the Big Apple. Harper’s Bazaar is reporting that the trip was planned for months, as a way for Markle to relax and spend some quality time with her friends before she becomes a mom.
“The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves. This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born, so it’s nice to share precious moments,” a source close to Markel shared with Harper’s Bazaar.

The baby shower took place on Tuesday at a secret hotel, so the Duchess could enjoy her celebration with friends in private. Those in attendance were her best friend and de facto maid of honor Jessica Mulroney, former Suits costar Abigail Spencer and designer Misha Nonoo, just to name a few. The shower was reportedly small consisting of around 15 select ladies from Markle’s inner circle.
Since news of the Duchess’ baby shower in New York City broke, there has been a question of whether or not she was breaking Royal tradition again. The answer is no. Even though she could have invited her pals to her baby shower in London, which according to Vanity Fair is in the works, there is no tradition preventing her from doing her own thing with friends. In all likelihood, Markle chose New York City as the last hurrah before she begins to prepare for the newest Royal baby.
Along with having a baby shower, Meghan Markle has been spotted shopping at various high-end children stores for her little one. She popped into Bonpoint over the weekend and was reportedly seen leaving with many shopping bags. It appears Prince Harry’s wife will be heading back to London relaxed, refreshed, full of quality girl time and with several items for their baby.
Their precious angel is due sometime this spring, which means Royal baby watch will begin very soon.
