The actress is currently in the middle of promoting her latest movie, The Kitchen, which is a crime-drama following herself as well as her fellow co-stars, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss. The movie is about three mob wives from the 1970s whose husbands are sent to prison.

Following their respective husbands’ incarcerations, the women decide to take on a life of crime, and subsequently begin ruling over the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. The cast believes the movie says a lot about speaking up, understanding one’s self-worth, as well as the importance of female empowerment.

While at the Hollywood premiere on Monday night at the TCL Chinese Theatre, the actress stated the movie is about “trying to survive, learning to fight back.” Melissa believes the movie is about women who demand power and respect in their community.

According to Elisabeth Moss, the flick says a lot about bravery as well as speaking one’s mind. Moreover, it’s about dealing with self-worth and understanding one’s own value in the world. Moss stated that women shouldn’t be afraid of speaking out for fear of being judged – a common problem women face.

McCarthy, speaking on the standards to which she has been compared to, the star said that she simply doesn’t care about them and has chosen a path for herself. Despite the fact Melissa has had a few box office slumps, the star said she’s continuing to work hard and do the things she loves.

“You never know what’s going to happen,” the performer remarked. McCarthy first gained critical acclaim for her performance in the 2011 movie, Bridesmaids, which was a critical and commercial success. Directed by Paul Feig, the movie was written by Kristen Wig as well as Annie Mumolo.
