As fans know, Williams won in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Television Movie category for her role in Fosse/Verdon!

She started her acceptance speech just like anybody else, by thanking her co-stars and staff before she went on to talk about female rights, expressing how grateful she was to have this opportunity in this day and age.

‘I’m grateful for the acknowledgment of the choices I have made and I am also grateful to have lived in a moment in society where choice exists because as women, things can happen to our bodies that aren’t our choice. I have tried my very best to live a life of my own making, not a series of events which happened to me, but one I could stand back and look at and recognize my handwriting all over.’

‘I would not have been able to do this without employing a woman’s right to choose. To choose just when to have children, and with whom,’ she went on to say in part.

The actress also acknowledged that while some women’s choices may be different than hers, voting is something really important.

That being said, she encouraged others to use their voting rights in their own interest, just like men have for centuries.

‘[This is] why the world looks this much like them. But do not forget, we are the largest voting body. Let’s make it look more like us!’ she encouraged.
