Michelle Williams Gives Birth To First Child With Thomas Kail

Dawson’s Creek alum Michelle Williams and her husband, Thomas Kail, have welcomed their first child together. This is the second child for Williams, who is also the mom of 14-year-old Matilda who she shared with the late Heath Ledger. There is no news yet about the newborn’s name or gender.

The baby news was first reported by US Weekly on their Hot Hollywood podcast, but neither Williams nor Kail have confirmed their newborn’s arrival. Williams has always been extremely private when it comes to her personal life and relationships. Even though the couple has not confirmed they are married, they were both spotted wearing wedding rings in March.

The publication confirmed that Williams and Kail were engaged and expecting their first child back in December 2019. They met on the set of the award-winning limited series Fosse/Verdon where she starred as Gale Verdon and Kail directed and produced the project.

“They’re very happy and thrilled to be bringing a baby into the world,” a source claimed after the couple walked the red carpet together at the Golden Globes, with Williams baby bump on display. “They would like to be married by the time that happens.”

When Williams won her Golden Globe that night in January, she told the crowd during her acceptance speech: “I wouldn’t have been able to do this without employing a woman’s right to choose, to choose when to have my children and with whom.”

After Ledger’s death in 2007, Williams dated actor Jason Segel, director Spike Jonze, and author Johnathan Safran Foer. In July 2018, she secretly married singer-songwriter Phil Elverum, but they split less than a year later. Kail was previously married to actress Angela Christain.

It’s not quite clear when Williams’ marriage to Elverum ended, or when Kail and Christian split. It’s also a mystery when Williams started dating the Hamilton director. But, an insider says that Williams and Kail “fell hard and fast for each other.” The duo shot Fosse/Verdon between November 2018 and March 2019.

At the same time she is taking care of a newborn, Michelle Williams is also dealing with a teenager at home. She said last year during an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Ryan that Matilda’s teenage years have been “so far, so good.”

“Every morning we wake up and I look to see if the transformation has happened and if it’s turned into the next level that I keep hearing about, but so far, we’re not there yet,” said Williams.
