Natalie Portman is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the first female to ever play Thor in the upcoming flick Thor: Love and Thunder, and she says that she is ready to get “jacked.”
Portman recently sat down for a chat with Serena Williams on Instagram Live to discuss their new female-led WFC LA/Angel City soccer team, and the actress made it clear that her version of Thor is not “Lady Thor,” but rather “The Mighty Thor.”

“The comics had the female Thor when Jane becomes Thor, and she’s The Mighty Thor,” explained Portman.
The Oscar winner said that the COVID-19 pandemic has put production on hold, so they haven’t started yet. However, Portman is looking at the delay as a positive.
“More time to get jacked. Which I have not. I’ve got the carbo-loading down, but not the exercise part,” said Portman. “Obviously everything is weird because of pandemic time, who knows what’s happening. It will be exciting and I’m interested to see if I can gain muscle.”
Portman says she is “very excited” to start shooting Thor: Love and Thunder, and they are scheduled to start in Australia in early 2021. The mom-of-two added that she is looking forward to working with Tessa Thompson, who plays her favorite Marvel character, Valkyrie.
Portman says that she has “major love for that woman.”

As the mom of a three-year-old daughter named Amalia (she also shares son Aleph, 9, with husband Benjamin Millepied), Portman told Williams that her hope for the future is that females have every opportunity and the possibility of being their truest self.
“You’re fighting for different ways of being a female athlete,” noted Portman. “In my profession, there’s different ways of being a female actress. We have the opposite thing, we’re like expected to be frilly.”
Natalie Portman and Serena Williams were part of a group of women who recently won the rights to the National Women’s Soccer League’s Los Angeles team. Other founders of the team include Uzo Aduba, America Ferrera, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria, and Lilly Singh, as well as Williams’ husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, venture capitalist Kara Nortman, and OUYA founder Julie Uhrman.
