Naya Rivera 'Mustered The Strength' To Save Her Son Josey, Before She Drowned, As Her Body Is Recovered

Actress Naya Rivera’s last moments on this earth were spent sacrificing her own life to save that of her son, Josey Dorsey. On Monday, July 13, 2020, authorities confirmed that the body of Naya Rivera, 33, was recovered at California’s Lake Piru. The location was deemed a spiritual place for Naya — a place where she could relax, enjoy nature and unwind. It was a place that she shared with her four-year-old son Josey. On July 8, 2020, Naya thought she and Josey would enjoy a fun time on the water. She rented a pontoon boat and even sent a photo of Josey about 90 minutes before tragedy hit. According to Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub, both Naya and Josey were in the water swimming when trouble ensued. It may have been a riptide, but the pair were in danger of drowning. Naya was able to use all her strength to get Josey back safely on the boat with his life jacket on, but Naya did not fare as well.

Josey told authorities that he saw his mother disappear into the water. Her life jacket was later found on the boat. It is unclear if wearing the life preservation device would have impacted the tragic outcome. After Naya saved the life of her son, she lost her own.

What may be one of the eeriest foreshadowings of things to come, is that the last photo Naya Rivera shared with her 2.7 million Instagram followers is a beautiful close-up photo of Naya kissing Josey. One can only imagine the significance and special place this photo will have in Josey’s heart for the rest of his life. Naya’s last public post was the declaration of love for her son as she posted, “Just the two of us.”

Her last act was sacrificing her own life to save him.
