Filming has begun for Season 17 of NCIS, and the cast and crew are dealing with some serious heat on location in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita, California. Temperatures are hitting the triple digits, and star Emily Wickersham (Special Agent Eleanor Bishop) is sharing their heat battle on Instagram.
Wickersham recently posted a pic on her Instagram Stories that featured stars Wilmer Valderrama (Nicholas Torres), Sean Murray (Timothy McGee), Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer), and Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs) dealing with the 100+ degree temperature.

As fans know, the show does a lot of filming outdoors, but they must have been on interior sets at some point because we still haven’t had the chance to see Cote de Pablo (Ziva David) yet. Showrunners promised that de Pablo would be a part of the Season 17 premiere, but CBS is keeping everything about her return under wraps, most likely to avoid spoilers.
Hopefully, the network will have some kind of promotional push in the weeks before the premiere.
There have been some rumors swirling about a major cast shakeup on the CBS procedural. According to PopCulture.TV, a fan theory is making its way through the internet that posits Ziva David will replace Agent Gibbs.
“Gibbs is old now, I stand by that the only way this show can continue is if Ziva takes his place as team lead, oh how wonderful that would be,” wrote a Reddit user. “They could just write that for her child’s protection Tony is taking care of her in hiding, I wouldn’t be mad at all, anything to have her back.”
Another fan agreed, explaining that Ziva’s character is beloved enough by fans to carry on the show when Gibbs and Ducky leave. If they don’t replace Gibbs with Ziva, said the fan, then it’s time to end the show.

Harmon’s current contract ends after Season 17, so if he decides not to sign an extension, Ziva taking over is a possibility. After she left the series in 2013, de Pablo stated that she exited the series because she felt the character wasn’t being treated with the respect she deserved. She added that she wouldn’t return to NCIS unless “someone can really write something fantastic” for the character.
Season 17 of NCIS premieres Tuesday, September 24th on CBS.
