Nick Cordero's Fans Raise Nearly $1 Million On GoFundMe For His Widow And Son

For the past three months, fans all over the world have followed the heartbreaking story of Broadway star Nick Cordero’s battle with COVID-19 thanks to his wife, Amanda Kloots, and her regular Instagram posts. Back in April, close friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Cordero, Kloots, and their one-year-old son, Elvis, with their finances.

Now, two days after Kloots announced her husband’s tragic passing, the fundraiser has blown past its original $400,000 goal and reached nearly $1 million. The page has also been changed and reads: “We are heartbroken to update this account to a memorial.”

The original goal of the GoFundMe campaign was to assist the Waitress star and his family with medical bills, and to help them with the financial hardships they were facing due to the Broadway shutdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

But now, the money will go to Kloots and Elvis to make sure they are taken care of after Cordero’s death. As of Tuesday, July 7, the donations total $961,488, and they continue to climb by the minute.

Cordero died on Sunday, July 5 at the age of 41 due to complications from COVID-19. The actor went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on March 31 after being diagnosed with pneumonia, and eventually tested positive for COVID-19.

After 95 days in a coma in the ICU – and a leg amputation – Cordero passed away while surrounded by his family. Kloots wrote on Instagram that as Cordero “gently left this earth,” his family surrounded him with love while singing and praying.

“God has another angel in heaven now,” wrote Kloots on Instagram. “I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, everyday.”

Kloots – a former Rockette – posted a video titled “Silver Linings” that her sister made that documented their family during Nick Cordero’s health struggle. In the caption, she wrote: “How do you get through the hardest time in your life? Family.”

Amanda Kloots says that she has always been lucky to have a family who loves to be together and supports each other. Now, she says she is even luckier to have Nick’s family, who she says are “the same.”

“This video captures these last 95 days. The love, the exhaustion, the bonds, the smiles, the song, the exercise, the hard work, the care, support and most of all love. They did all of this for Nick, Elvis and I- selfless time from their lives to be with us. In times of trauma, look for the silver linings. Spend time with family. Smile through the tears. Have faith when things seem impossible. Love one another. ❤️.”
