According to recent information, Nicki Minaj is being sued by her former stylist, Maher Jridi. As court documents suggest, the hip-hop star has failed to give back some luxurious pieces of fashion that Jridi had rented from another company for a limited amount of time.
In addition, Jridi claimed his ex-boss did not pay him the money he paid in order to borrow the clothes in the first place.
Since the expensive garments reportedly remained with the Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper, Jridi was brought to court by the third-party company, and in the end, he was forced to pay them back the sum of $74,000.
Jridi blamed the “Anaconda” singer for what happened and insisted that Minaj was the one who had to pay to the money he was sued for, and she also owed him additional financial compensation because of the damages on a psychological level he suffered.
As a result, Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, was summoned to a taped deposition that took place on September 20.
It seems that the famous musician feared that the video record of her testimony might find its way on social media, so she pleaded with the judge of the case to protect its privacy with an official order.
She said in court documents: “Given Maraj’s fame as a world-renowned rapper and entertainer, she fears Plaintiff intends to publicly disseminate confidential document discovery and pre-trial testimony in order to embarrass or otherwise damage her. Rather than provide the appropriate factual showing for entitlement to the relief she seeks, Defendant simply asks for special treatment by virtue of her celebrity status.”
However, Minaj’s wish was turned down because her plea was interpreted as asking for special treatment due to her being rich and famous.
Furthermore, according to the judge, the singer did not present any proof that the distribution of the record of her deposition to the public could do any harm to her.
In related Minaj news, she has recently revealed that she is not quite stepping away from the music scene completely, after announcing her retirement.
The 37-year-old Young Money talent told Billboard: “I love music and interacting with fans, so I can’t really see taking myself completely away. But I want to be open to other possibilities in my life. I do believe it is important to become a woman outside of the magnifying glass. I have to make sure that I’m well-rounded as a human being.”
Did Minaj do something wrong in this case?
