Nicki Minaj blindsided everyone earlier this week when she tweeted that she was retiring so she could focus on starting a family. However, she has quickly backtracked on her retirement announcement, and insiders say Minaj is recording new music with several other artists.

According to TMZ, Minaj has been in the studio this summer recording new music, she still has studio time booked for another few weeks, and she has scheduled future recording sessions with other artists.

Sources claim that Minaj’s tweet – which she has since deleted – was a result of her being fed up with internet trolls who constantly harass her. Minaj has received a ton of online abuse over her engagement to Kenneth Petty, a convicted felon who served time in prison for the death of Lamont Robsinson and who is also a level-two sex offender in the state of New York.

Minaj has defended Petty numerous times on social media, and she explained Petty is a registered sex offender because of an incident when he was a teenager.

“He was 15, she was 16 … in a relationship. But go awf Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo,” Minaj wrote in the comments of an Instagram post.

Back in June, Minaj told fans on Queen Radio that she and Petty had acquired a marriage license, and last month she changed her Twitter display name from Ms. Minaj to Mrs. Petty. Her man’s past doesn’t bother, but she is getting tired of the constant harassment from fans over her relationship.

After fans started expressing their shock and sadness over Minaj’s retirement tweet, she attempted to clear things up by telling fans she will explain everything soon.

“I’m still right here,” the 36-year-old rapper told a fan on Twitter. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything.”

Minaj also apologized for her retirement tweet, describing it as “abrupt and insensitive.”

As for the rumor that Minaj is expecting a baby – which is why she announced her retirement – insiders say that she isn’t pregnant yet.

During a June appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Nicki Minaj also confirmed that she was working on a new album, but she wouldn’t confirm a release date.
