Nostalgic reboots of teen dramas are the latest trend in Hollywood these days. From Beverly Hills 90210 to Veronica Mars, fans are begging for their favorite shows to return so they can catch up with all of the beloved characters. However, those who are asking for reboot of One Tree Hill may end up disappointed says stars Bethany Joy Lenz and Jana Kramer because the cast during the show’s initial run was “divided.”

The two ladies talked about a possible reboot during a recent episode of Kramer’s podcast Whine Down with Jana Kramer, and they revealed that there was a big difference between the cast members who were on the show from the beginning and those who joined later in the series.

“It was hard for us because I felt like when we came on the show, just being so honest, it was a very divided set,” Kramer said. “I feel like everyone already had their places and it was either, ‘Are you going to be in the A-team or the B-team?’ It was just tricky.”

One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012, and Kramer became a main cast member during Season 7. She says that showrunner Mark Schwahn created a dysfunctional environment on the set, and that was the hardest part of her experience on the show.

In 2017, more than a dozen female cast and crew members of One Tree Hill accused Schwahn of sexual harassment and emotional manipulation, allegations that he has not publicly addressed.

Lenz added that Schwahn is the biggest thing standing in the way of a reboot because the creator gets compensated, and that is a big issue unless he is “willing to donate it all or something.” He would essentially have to give up his character rights and allow a new network or streaming service to produce a reboot.

If Schwahn would be willing to do that, Lenz says it would be great to go back and not feel like the set was divided. She says that everyone is older now, and it would be much easier to enjoy each other’s company, appreciate having a job, and enjoy showing up to work.

One Tree Hill was one of the most popular teen dramas in the 2000s and it still has a loyal fanbase. If they can get around compensating Schwahn and keep him away from the project, Lenz says she would be interested in returning for a reboot.
