Patrick Stewart Leaves Whoopi Goldberg In Tears On The View After Inviting Her To Reprise Her Star Trek Role

Patrick Stewart stopped by The View this week to promote his return to the popular role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the new Star Trek series Star Trek: Picard. And, during his appearance, he left co-host Whoopi Goldberg in tears after he invited her to reprise the role of Guinan, which she played in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

“I’m here with a formal invitation, and it’s for you, Whoopi,” said Stewart. “Alex Kurtzmann, who is the senior executive producer of Star Trek: Picard, and all of his colleagues of which I am one, want to invite you into the second season.”

A surprised Goldberg immediately responded by saying, “Yes, yes, yes! Oh, yeah” as the studio audience applauded. The Oscar-winning actress then got up to give Stewart a hug, and co-host Joy Behar asked with a smile if Goldberg would have to change her hairstyle.

Stewart said that wasn’t necessary, and Goldberg can do “whatever the hell she wants.”

Goldberg said that being on Star Trek: The Next Generation was one of the greatest experiences of her life, and she also called it the “best time ever.” Stewart said he was happy to hear her say that, and it was wonderful having her on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Stewart added that they couldn’t wait to have Goldberg return, which made the actress start to cry.

Patrick Stewart played the role of Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994, and he also reprised the role in 2002 for the film Star Trek: Nemesis. Goldberg played Guinan – a mysterious Starship Enterprise bartender who has a knack for giving good advice – during 29 episodes between 1988 and 1993.

Goldberg also appeared in the films Star Trek: Generations in 1994, as well as Star Trek: Nemesis. The actress has spoken in the past about the effect the original Star Trek series had on her as a child when she saw Nichelle Nichols play Lt. Uhura.

According to the Daily Mail, Nichols was the first black actress to land a leading role on American television, and Whoopi Goldberg remembers seeing her and thinking, “I just saw a black woman on television, and she ain’t no maid!”

Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard will feature ten episodes, and the series premiere is now available for streaming on CBS All Access. They will release one new episode each week, and the show has already been picked up for Season 2.
