Comedian Patton Oswalt has caused quite a stir on Twitter this weekend after he mocked COVID-19 protestors who are asking their political leaders to remove the strict shelter-in-place orders so they can go back to work and take care of their families.
On Saturday, the 51-year-old King of Queens alum tweeted:“Anne Frank spent 2 years hiding in an attic and we’ve been home for just over a month with Netflix, food delivery & video games and there are people risking viral death by storming state capital [sic] buildings & screaming, ‘Open Fuddruckers!’”
Anne Frank faced a much more credible threat. Our greatest threat here is the one against our Constitutional rights.

Oswalt was complaining about the numerous protests around the nation that featured citizens who were fed up with the strict shelter-in-place orders and who are ready to get back to work and freely live their lives.
The responses to Oswalt’s post were mixed, but most called out the comedian for being “elitist” and out-of-touch with Americans who don’t have the luxury of staying home for the foreseeable future.
“This is extremely elitist, many of these people are out of work and on their last leg. Yes, if you are part of the lucky few who are able to work from home or have jobs that are essential it seems this easy. Millions of Americans are struggling right now… come on Patton!” said one critic, who said he is “in no way a Trump supporter.”
Another called Oswalt’s comment “tone deaf” and “idiotic” because people are seeing their businesses being destroyed – which they spent a liftime to build – and a “smug arrogant elitist is making fun of them.”

Others called out Oswalt for comparing the current situation to the Nazi occupation, and asked why he wouldn’t want people to fight such government intrusion.
One Twitter user pointed out that Oswalt is a “typical Hollywood douchebag” who sits at home watching Netflix and ordering takeout while other “normal Americans” are “going broke, losing businesses, and trying to homeschool their kids.
However, Patton Oswalt does have his share of support for the tweet. It has been liked over 400,000 times and retweeted over 100,000 times, but many of those retweets were to voice a dissenting opinion. There were also tweets of support for Fuddruckers, with many people calling their burgers “amazing” and voicing their excitement for the chain to reopen.
