As you may know, shockingly enough, the New Zealand Christchurch mosque shooter that opened fire and killed 49 people, mentioned PewDiePie before the massacre! The killer mockingly told the victims to ‘subscribe to PewDiePie’ and now, the famous YouTuber is addressing the news about it.
It turns out that the influencer is no less than ‘sickened’ that the shooter used his name before committing such a heinous crime.
Felix took to social media today to tweet: ‘Just heard the news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch. I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by that person. My heart and thoughts go out to all the victims, families and everybody affected by this tragedy.’
The shooter, Australian man Brenton Tarrant, 28, told his Facebook Live stream viewers just before opening fire on two mosques, to ’subscribe to PewDiePie.’
The YouTuber is currently the most subscribed to person on the platform and since another channel has been very close to taking that number one spot from him for a while, the words used by Tarrant had become pretty much a meme, as well as a way for people to support the Swedish entertainer.
That being said, his ‘subscribe to PewDiePie’ message was most likely used in a mocking way, pretty much like saying ‘YOLO’ or other slang that expresses indifference before doing something rash.
Then, the man proceeded to live stream the horrible attack inside one of the mosques, on Facebook Live.
And that was not all! Tarrant also released a lengthy 74 pages long manifesto online titled ‘The Great Replacement.’
About the attacker’s name, Brenton Tarrant, the police stated that: ‘I know there is a name within the public domain but it would be improper for me now to confirm that because a person has been charged.’
