Pierce Brosnan, during Esquire’s live watch-along to Brosnan’s first Bond movie, Goldeneye, revealed there was a time when he and Quentin Tarantino met up to discuss the possibility of a James Bond movie.

Even though the potentially amazing movie never came to be, the 66-year-old actor and Quentin did get together with their teams to discuss the potential of a movie.

Brosnan claimed the meeting took place not long after the successful release of Kill Bill Volume 2, and Quentin wanted to meet, so he went down to Hollywood one day from the beach and had a chat with the director at his Four Seasons hotel lobby.

Pierce said he got to the hotel around 7:00 pm because he likes to be punctual, and then fifteen minutes passed, and then another 15 minutes, and then finally, Pierce had another martini and relaxed into his seat. Eventually, the Pulp Fiction director did come down and by that time, Pierce was “fairly smokered,” as he put it.

Brosnan said he and Quentin had multiple drinks together until both of them were drunk. Brosnan told him he thought James was the best James Bond, and he desperately wanted to create a 007 movie.

The director was pounding on the table enthusiastically, making all kinds of noise, but Pierce didn’t want to tell him to calm down because it was Quentin Tarantino. Brosnan said he went back to his home to tell producers about the potential collaboration, but it “wasn’t meant to be.”

It’s unfortunate the movie never came to fruition, but maybe it was better left that way anyway. Quentin later went on to direct some of the biggest movies of his career, including The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained, Inglorious Basterds, and then Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Pierce Brosnan, on the other hand, had just finished his last installment in the James Bond franchise, Die Another Day, in which he co-starred alongside Halle Berry. Die Another Day came out just two years before Kill Bill Volume 2.
