President Donald Trump plans to be even more aggressive in the near future when it comes to race relations in this country.
With an economy in shambles, unrest over racism and police brutality, and a huge spike in coronavirus cases, Trump is now trailing his presumptive Democratic opponent in the November election, former Vice President Joe Biden, in the polls.
Trump, who is getting hammered by Americans in polling for his handling of the various crises, reportedly blames his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for pushing him to do criminal justice reform.
This is surprising because Trump has used the law for months in order to reach out to African Americans. One insider told Axios: “no more of Jared’s woke s***.”
During a June 10 meeting, Trump said: “I keep hearing about, “Oh, criminal justice reform,” and everyone is trying to take the credit. And this one, I will say, we will take the full credit because they couldn’t have done it without us. So we’ve done a lot for the black community, and we’ve done a lot for all communities.”
The president has a problem with the phrase Black Lives Matter and is currently using the matter as a wedge issue. Trump tweeted: “NYC is cutting Police $’s by ONE BILLION DOLLARS, and yet the @NYCMayor is going to paint a big, expensive, yellow Black Lives Matter sign on Fifth Avenue, denigrating this luxury Avenue. This will further antagonize New York’s Finest, who LOVE New York & vividly remember the….horrible BLM chant, “Pigs In A Blanket, Fry ‘Em Like Bacon.” Maybe our GREAT Police, who have been neutralized and scorned by a mayor who hates & disrespects them, won’t let this symbol of hate be affixed to New York’s greatest street. Spend this money fighting crime instead!”
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany tried to reframe the conversation and shared this week: “He agrees that all black lives matter including of that of Officer David Dorn, Patrick Underwood, two officers whose lives were tragically taken amid these riots, all black lives do matter, he agrees with that sentiment. But what he doesn’t agree with is an organization that chants, “pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon,” about our police officers, our valiant heroes who are out on our streets protecting us every day.”
Trump is currently an underdog in the race against Biden.
