President Donald Trump Responds To Barack Obama On Mass Shootings After Viral Rebuke

On Monday, former President Barack Obama shared a lengthy post on social media where he addressed the horrific mass shootings that occurred in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

The back-to-back shootings left more than 30 people dead and dozens injured. The former president did not mention President Donald Trump by name but did ask leaders to stop using hateful rhetorics and rebuked nationalism and hate groups who are dividing this country.

The Democrat from Hawaii also called for stricter gun laws and asked his fellow Americans to have more empathy for others.

Michelle Obama’s husband said: “We should soundly reject language coming out of the mouths of any of our leaders that feeds a climate of fear and hatred and normalizes racist sentiments; leaders who demonize those who don’t look like us, or suggest that other people, including immigrants, threaten our way of life, or refer to other people as sub-human, or imply that America belongs to just one certain type of people.”

Obama went on to explain in the statement: “He noted that the rhetoric is not new, but that it has no place in our politics and our public life. It’s time for the overwhelming majority of Americans of goodwill, of every race and faith and political party, to say as much — clearly and unequivocally.”

The Hawaii native urged politicians in Washington to take concrete actions: “We are not helpless here. And until all of us stand up and insist on holding public officials accountable for changing our gun laws, these tragedies will keep happening.”

One voter had this to say: “Awareness is the greatest agent for change. @barackobama is the only politician in this country that consistently talks about needing more empathy and less financial stimulus. His message is wise and compassionate, and the only one that will lead us to change. What the current president fails to say our forever President Obama said with no hesitation.”

This Republican went after Obama: “Funny that Obama is talking about gun laws yet when mass shooting was happening in his terms he did absolutely nothing….btw didn’t his “language” insight police shooting in Dallas? Pot calling kettle black.”

A Democrat shared: “Every time Barack tried to regulate gun laws Republican in Congress pushed back and rejected him. During Barack’s presidency, Republicans ruled the House and Senate. The NRA backs and funds the Republican party. Stop blaming Obama and go out to vote in midterm elections so the Democratic party can regulate gun laws. Simple. Still, Americans favorite president even out of office #MyPresident.”

Trump said Obama should not go after him on mass shootings.
