Earlier this week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed that they had named their new charitable foundation Archewell after Queen Elizabeth squashed the idea of Sussex Royal, but it appears that they didn’t cover all of their bases before announcing the new name.
According to Page Six, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex became the target of trolls after the couple seemingly failed to secure the domain www.archewellfoundation.com. Fans who attempted to visit that web address this week were re-directed to the YouTube video for Kanye West’s 2005 hit Gold Digger that features Jamie Foxx.
It isn’t clear if the couple owns the web address and were the victims of hackers who redirect the site, or if they failed to secure the domain and someone else cyber-squatted and snapped it up. As of Thursday, the redirect to Gold Digger had been taken down. However, it wasn’t fast enough to avoid the comments from pouring in.
“Redirected here from Mr. and Mrs. Markle’s “foundation,” wrote one fan. “A tacky grifter and her hapless boy-toy.” Another added: “Linking this from Harry and Meghan’s Merchie Foundation is pure gold!”
A third wrote: “Game, set, match House of Windsor. I’d like to imagine the Queen orchestrating this and blasting it at tea time. Epic,” and a fourth added, “Hahahah who ever did this on Meghan and Harry’s website is a genius.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently settling into their new home in Los Angeles, and they explained in a statement that they chose the name Archewell because of their son, Archie Harrison.

The couple explained that the Greek word Arche means “source of action,” and it was the inspiration for their son’s name and their charitable endeavours. Harry and Meghan have not launched their new foundation yet, but they felt “compelled” to share the new name because they knew the information would come to light.
“To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon. We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right,” said Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
