Prince William got vulnerable when discussing the impact of losing his mother, Princess Diana, at a young age had on him. It was a rare side of the prince, and he was more than willing to open up to help further the discussion on the pressures of mental health.
The 36-year-old sat down to chat with BBC for the new special, A Royal Team Talk: Tackling Mental Health. It is set to air in full tomorrow, Sunday, May 19th but excerpts have been released giving royal watchers insight into a life-changing event for Prince William.

“I think when you are bereaved at a very young age, anytime really, but particularly at a young age, I can resonate closely to that you feel pain like no other pain. And you know that in your life it’s going to be very difficult to come across something that is going to be an even worse pain than that. But it also brings you so close to all those other people out there who have been bereaved,” he shared speaking about losing his mom at 15-years-old.
Although both Prince William and Prince Harry often speak about the tragic loss of their mother when they were just boys, this is the first time the soon to be King of England has shown pure vulnerability on the subject.
He is getting candid as part of continuing to fight for mental health, which is a topic he, his wife Kate Middleton, his brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle are passionate about. The fab foursome recently launched an app to help those in need access help at any time.

Prince William knew showing his vulnerable side could benefit others who have been through a similar loss. The Duke of Cambridge also revealed he believes British people are more apt to hide how they genuinely feel. It is conditioned in them to keep their vulnerable side hidden, as it is viewed as being embarrassing.
The father of three wants to encourage British people to relax a little bit and be more open. However, he can’t expect others to do something he isn’t willing to do, which is why Prince William got candid about losing Princess Diana. It is a loss he carries with him daily. He hopes others can seek solace in his words and know they are not alone.
