When Prince tragically passed away from an accidental drug overdose in 2016, he was in the middle of writing his memoir. And now, more than three years after his death, the book titled The Beautiful Ones will be released so fans can read the pages he wrote about his childhood, see rare pics from his private life, and get a glimpse of pages from the singer/songwriter’s secret scrapbook.

According to Radar Online, Dan Piepenbring edited the memoir after meeting Prince and working on the project with the Raspberry Beret singer before his death. Prince had written pages by hand that detailed painful memories from his childhood when he was known as Prince Rogers Nelson, including numerous seizures and “blackouts” from his epilepsy that started when he was just three years old.

“My brain has always been overactive and the blackouts would occur primarily from overthinking,” Prince wrote.

He added that he would “stare at everything in the house” and lose himself “in every object” until his brain was “fried.” However, Prince tells the miraculous story that during one of his blackouts he saw an angel who told him that his sickness was behind him, and from that point forward he “never had another seizure.”

The singer also wrote about his parents’ troubled relationship, and he said that when you’re a kid, the sound of your parents fighting is “chilling.” And, when it turns physical, the Minnesota native described it as “soul crushing.”

Prince called his parents’ divorce “unusual” and “traumatic,” and he also revealed that his mom would use him as a buffer so his dad wouldn’t fight with her. He said that his mom would come to him crying, but then manage to smile before asking him to tell his father to be nice to her.

His parents’ divorce had lingering effects on him all the way through adulthood, and the split made Prince realize that there is “some part of your heart you should never give away.”

Prince was found dead inside the elevator of his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota – known as Paisley Park – on April 21, 2016. His cause of death was an accidental overdose of “self-administered” fentanyl. He was 57 years old.
