Rami Malek won his first Golden Globe for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and he’s giving credit where it is due. Malek has three Golden Globe nominations and one win. He rose to critical acclaim for his work on USA’s Mr. Robot (which returns for a fourth and final season), but it was his role as Freddie Mercury that landed him the win.

Malek competed against John David Washington, Willem Dafoe, Bradley Cooper, and Lucas Hedges for the coveted honor.

During Rami’s winning speech, he recognized the excellent talents of the other nominees as well as those who brought Bohemian Rhapsody to completion.

When he thanked Queen, Malek looked over to the table where Brian May and Roger Taylor were seated. May blew him a kiss of gratitude and appreciation as both men became emotional at the win. Malek thanked them for ensuring that ‘authenticity and exclusivity’ existed not only in their music but in the world.

He concluded his speech with the shout out to Freddie Mercury.

“Thank you to Freddie Mercury, for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you gorgeous.”

The crowd offered thunderous applause and cheered.

Rami Malek will next be heard in the fantasy/comedy movie The Voyage of Doctor Doolittle. The movie features Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role. The star-studded cast includes Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, Octavia Spencer, Marion Cotillard, John Cena and more.

Rami Malek will voice the character Chee-Chee.

After Rami’s win at the Golden Globes, he is a likely Oscar nominee. Many fans have already speculated that he will be up for the best actor nomination. If so, he may find his entire career catapulted to great success.
