Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey has a strategy for looking her best at the upcoming reunion – the keto diet. Bailey is the latest celebrity to give Keto a try, but not everyone in Hollywood is on board with one of the most trendiest diets on Earth.
“My historical modeling career has been called into question a little bit,” Bailey recently told Us Weekly. “So I gotta make sure these cheekbones are more sucked in!”
In case you were wondering what the keto diet is, it is a high-fat, extremely low carb diet that puts your body in ketosis. When your body is in ketosis, it burns your body fat for energy instead of carbohydrates. Unlike Atkins, keto keeps protein to moderate levels, and you get the vast majority of your calories from high-fat foods and close to zero calories from carbs.
The daily macros recommendations for the keto diet are 70-75 percent fat, 15-25 percent protein, and 5 percent carbs.
So, what do other celebrities have to say about keto?
The Skeptics
Jillian Michaels
The former Biggest Loser coach made headlines recently when she slammed the keto diet, claiming that not eating carbohydrates will starve your cells. Michaels believes that a balanced diet is a key to a healthy life.
Tamra Judge
The star of Real Housewives of Orange County – who is also a fitness guru that owns her own gym – is always open to new ideas. But, when she tried the keto diet, it didn’t work for her.
Judge couldn’t wrap her brain around the idea of eating high-fat foods like cheese, butter, and sour cream. But, it was ultimately the “Keto flu” that led to her falling off the wagon. What is the keto flu? When your body is heading into ketosis, you can get flu-like symptoms. But, they usually go away after just a few days.
Gina Kirschenheiter
Judge’s RHOC co-star Gina Kirschenheiter has never tried keto, but she doesn’t get it.
“I think it’s kinda weird,” she told The Feast. “I don’t know — I don’t get it. It’s like, just eat only sticks of butter and then you’re going to lose weight? I don’t really understand that. I feel like that’s probably a slippery slope for me.”
The Advocates
Jenna Jameson
The former adult star has nothing but good things to say about the keto diet, especially after she lost more than 60 pounds after the birth of her daughter. She wrote on Instagram that keto is allowing her to live her best life, but advised fans to do what is best for them.
Kourtney Kardashian
Kardashian’s doctor recommended the keto diet in 2017, and she couldn’t believe the positive effects it had on her body. The reality star says she learned the ground rules, and was “very strict and really stuck to it.”
Katie Couric
Like most people who switch to the keto diet, Couric had to deal with the keto flu. But, that didn’t make her hate it. Couric says that Keto makes her feel better, and the best part is being able to add half-and-half to her iced coffee.
Tim Tebow
Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has made keto a way of life, and this has led him to become a vocal advocate of the diet. He says that he has to take in a lot of fat, with his number one source being avocados. Tebow puts the superfood in things like smoothies and believes that keto is the best way to be healthy.
Vinny Guadagnino
The self-proclaimed “Keto Guido,” the Jersey Shore star documented his amazing results from the keto diet on Instagram. He calls it a “fountain of youth,” and believes that avoiding sugars and grains and focusing on fatty foods is the key to health.
“When I ate sugars and grains I was 50 lbs heavier and looked ten years older,” says Guadagnino.
