Not everyone was excited to learn that Robert Pattinson is going to be the next Batman. However, it turns out the actor is not bothered by the hate he’s been getting.

In fact, he is looking forward to being the underdog and exceeding people’s expectations.

During an interview with Variety, Pattinson shared that he actually expected the negative response to the announcement to be even bigger even though there was an actual Change.org petition in which people demanded for him to be fired from the upcoming Dark Night production.

‘To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting,’ he tells the news outlet. ‘It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you.’

But if the comic book fans that wish the iconic role would be taken on by someone else knew just how much he also loves Batman, maybe they would stop the hate.

The actor grew up watching Tim Burton’s Batman movies and as a kid, he would dress up as the character as well.

‘When I was a kid, it was the only outfit that I had,’ he shared.

When asked where he’d use the costume, the Twilight star refused to reveal it, arguing that ‘If I actually said it in an interview, I would definitely have a lot of abuse afterwards.’

The response was apparently accompanied by nervous laughter as he added: ‘If I successfully portray the character, I can maybe say it at the end.’

But now, his costume is super legit! He’s already tried it on for the final phase of the audition and told Variety about that experience.

‘I remember saying to [director Matt Reeves], ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ You feel very powerful immediately. And it is pretty astonishing, something that’s incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is quite humiliating. You have five people trying to shove you into something. Once you have it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have somebody squeeze my butt cheeks into the legs.’’
