Rocker Eddie Money Dead At Age 70 Weeks After Revealing Esophageal Cancer Diagnosis

Rocker Eddie Money is dead at age 70 just weeks after revealing he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The family announced the news of his death on Friday following complications from his stage 4 cancer.

“The Money family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music,” read the statement from his family to People magazine.

It has been less than a month since the singer publicly announced his battle with cancer. The ”Two Tickets To Paradise’ singer revealed his news via a clip from the second season of his reality TV show, Real Money on AXS TV.

The show chronicled the daily lives of Money, his wife of 30 years Laurie and their five children. Eddie and Laurie are parents to one daughter, Jesse and four sons, Desmond, Zachary, Julian, and Joseph.

In 1981, he overdosed on fentanyl. It left him with severe sciatic nerve damage, and he spent one year in physical therapy to recover from the incident. After meeting Laurie in 1985, the singer joined a 12-step program.

At the same as his cancer reveal, the rocker also shared he was recovering from complications from an unrelated heart valve procedure earlier this summer. In July the singer had to cancel some of his tour dates after developing pneumonia.

Money made a name for himself in the music business with hit songs like ‘Take Me Home Tonight,’ ‘Walk on Water’ and ‘Baby Hold On.’ Throughout his career, he had over 11 Top 30 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. Although he was nominated for a couple of Grammy Awards, Money never took one home.

However, his outstanding music career almost didn’t happen. The singer initially wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a New York City Police Officer.

Shortly after entering the NYPD training program, Money decided to follow his music dreams instead. He quit, packed his bags, and moved to California.

“I would have been a very lenient cop,” he expressed to Rolling Stone magazine during a 2018 interview.

The music world lost another great today. Rocker Eddie Money has died following complications from his stage 4 diagnosis with esophageal cancer. He was a staple in the rock and roll music biz during the 1970s and 1980s.
