Rose McGowan Avoids Jail Time Following Guilty Plea On Drug Charges

Rose McGowan got some good news recently. It turns out she will avoid going to jail in Virginia after she reached a plea deal, Mr. James W. Hundley, her lawyer, said to The Times. Her lawyer got the court to reduce the charges down from a felony charge to a misdemeanor of possession of a controlled substance.

In June 2018, McGowan was indicted by a Virginia grand jury on one felony count of cocaine possession. Approximately six months before that in January 2017, Rose’s belongings were left behind after a United Airlines flight arriving at the Washington Dulles International Airport.

Her luggage tested positive for narcotics, and she had to go to jail as a result. And in February 2018, McGowan and her lawyers tried to have the charges thrown out by blaming Mr. Harvey Weinstein for “underhandedly targeting” her.

This was in the middle of the #MeToo movement when she and Asia Argento were accusing the disgraced Hollywood producer of sexual assault among other transgressions. Weinstein is currently awaiting his trial which is slated for May of this year.

The producer’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, laughed at the allegation and described it as a “ludicrous claim.” And when she entered her court date on Tuesday, the Commonwealth told her it wouldn’t be a bad idea for her to pay a fine.

And on Wednesday, McGowan said she had accepted that agreement in order to spare her family and supporters a criminal trial while she continues to be an activist for women’s rights. Her lawyer said that it’s great to put it all behind her.

As it was previously reported, Rose and Asia were two of the most vocal detractors of Mr. Weinstein, alongside Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino, both actresses who claim Harvey played a crucial role and tampering negatively with their careers.

In the case of Mira Sorvino, especially, Peter Jackson later claimed that Harvey Weinstein’s company, Miramax, suggested she was too hard to work with.

However, Harvey later released a statement in which he said the claim was false, and it wasn’t actually Miramax who handled casting, and therefore he didn’t have the power to thwart either of their careers in terms of Lord Of The Rings casting. Putting that aside, it wasn’t until the Weinstein case that Rose’s name became publicly associated with women’s rights.
