Roseanne Barr Reveals Exactly Who Is To Blame For The Collapse Of Her Career

Nearly one year after she posted a late-night, Ambien-fueled tweet about Obama aide Valerie Jarrett that led to ABC canceling her sitcom, Roseanne Barr has returned to stand-up comedy. The comedienne did a set at The Laugh Factory in Las Vegas earlier this week, and she joked about everything from the network who fired her to having suicidal thoughts after the scandal. Barr also revealed this week that there is one person who is responsible for her losing her show – her on-screen daughter, Sara Gilbert.

After ABC canceled the Roseanne reboot last May, Barr said that she would accept whatever consequences her actions brought because she knew she had done something wrong. However, during a recent interview with the Washington Post, Barr said that it was Gilbert’s fault that the show was canceled.

After Barr’s tweet about Jarrett, Gilbert said on Twitter that Barr’s words were “abhorrent.”

“[Gilbert] destroyed the show and my life with that tweet,” said Barr.

The Roseanne reboot was the highest-rated series of 2018, averaging more than 20 million viewers each week. But, after Barr’s controversial tweet about Jarrett being a cross between the “Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes,” ABC canceled the sitcom and re-worked it into The Conners, where the family carries on after killing Roseanne off due to an opioid overdose.

Barr apologized for the tweet, but it didn’t save her job. And, she told fans at The Laugh Factory that her termination led to suicidal thoughts.

“When you get fired, you get real suicidal,” Barr told the Laugh Factory crowd. “But I’d never kill myself because that would make too many f***ing people happy, and I’m not about making people happy.”

She also read a letter that she had written for ABC, calling them a “s**** f***ing low-rated network,” and added that she couldn’t believe they killed her off with a drug overdose at the first sign of controversy.

“But you know what? I ain’t dead, b**ches,” said Barr.

The crowd gave Barr a standing ovation, and she danced with fellow comedian Andrew Dice Clay during the applause.
