Ryan Reynolds Responds To Fan Who Has 'So Many Questions' After Watching His Critically-Panned Movie 'Paper Man'

Ryan Reynolds has had some major box office hits in his career – including superhero flicks Deadpool and Deadpool 2, and rom coms like The Proposal – but not every project has been a success.

Amid the COVID-19 lockdown, many people have been discovering content on various streaming services to keep themselves entertained. But, when Lifewire editor-in-chief Lance Ulanoff stumbled upon Reynolds’ 2010 flick Paper Man, he ended up having some questions.

Earlier this week, Ulanoff wrote on Twitter that he randomly selected the movie while browsing movies on Amazon Prime, and it wasn’t quite what he expected.

“I have so many questions for @VancityReynolds,” tweeted Ulanoff, to which Reynolds replied: “I have zero answers.”

In response, Ulanoff wrote that he “would expect no less” from Reynolds, and added that the movie is “an oddly affecting (emphasis on “oddly”) film with a crazy good cast. In addition to Mr. Reynolds, it stars a young Emma Stone, Jeff Daniels, Lisa Kudrow, and Kieran Culkin. It was also shot all around Montauk in at least one of my favorite restaurants.”

According to IMDB, Paper Man stars Jeff Daniels as a struggling writer who relies on his imaginary childhood friend Captain Excellent (Reynolds) to help him with his life choices. It’s no surprise that many of Reynolds’ fans have never heard of the movie, as it received harsh reviews from critics and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 32 percent.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Kirk Honeycutt called the film “a bad idea,” who failed to recover from “the awkwardness of its premise.”

Reynolds has never been one to shy away from his career misses, with his most notorious flp being 2011’s Green Lantern. He even made fun of the movie in Deadpool, and admitted in 2018 that he has never seen the final cut of the film.

“Look, I’ve never seen the full final version of Green Lantern,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I saw a very late stage rough cut of the film. Now, that isn’t to say that I didn’t want to see it because I didn’t like it. I have movies that have been received pretty well that I haven’t seen, and then I have movies that I have seen 100 times that people don’t like but I just like.”
