Schitt's Creek Star Catherine O'Hara Is Photographed By Drone For New Magazine Cover During COVID-19 Pandemic, And She Looks Incredible!

Beloved Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara is featured on the cover of the June 2020 issue of Vanity Fair magazine. And, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the photoshoot was done in O’Hara’s backyard via drone! Not only does the comedy legend look amazing in the pictures, but in the interview she dished about everything from her crush on Martin Short to her friendship with Gilda Radner.

O’Hara revealed that her crush on Short started after seeing him in the 1972 Toronto production of Godspell. Short starred in the show along with Radner (who was dating O’Hara’s brother), Eugene Levy, Victor Garber, and Andrea Martin. O’Hara says that at the time she thought Short was “adorable,” and she also revealed that she briefly dated Levy, who would go on to be her co-star in Schitt’s Creek, as well as numerous movies and other projects.

“I took the program home, and I remember kissing his picture because I thought he [Short] was so adorable,” says O’Hara. She added that she went out to breakfast once with Levy, and she thinks they “must have kissed.” However, nothing else happened because “he was a gentleman,” and she is a “good Catholic girl.”

Short says that everyone has loved O’Hara since she was 17 years old. When she would walk into a room, everyone wanted to meet her, and he compared it to “Paul McCartney walking in in 1965.”

“No one made me laugh like her onstage. And she always brought a humanity to her characters. They always had a bent reality but they were never not kind,” said Short.

O’Hara’s colleagues aren’t just impressed with her career, they are in awe of her “tiny comedic choices.” From how she yells “Kevin!” in Home Alone to singing “Day-O” in Beetlejuice – not to mention how she played drunk in Waiting for Guffman and her unusual accent and inflection as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek – O’Hara brings something to a character that no one else can.

O’Hara starred alongside Eugene Levy for six seasons on Schitt’s Creek, and creator Dan Levy (Eugene’s son) says that he is thrilled to be a part of making O’Hara a TV icon.

“Networks down the line have pigeonholed or diminished the idea of what an older female character can be,” says Dan Levy. “So to be able to be a part of this moment for Catherine O’Hara at this point in her life and show the world that there is nothing sexier, nothing more hysterical than a woman over 50—that was the joy.”

Dan Levy added that O’Hara is the caliber of actor who is seasoned and willing to make choices that are outside of people’s comfort zones, and he thinks Moira Rose is the result of O’Hara “having the runway to go for it.”

The June issue of Vanity Fair will be available at newsstands everywhere on May 26.  Schitt’s Creek is available for streaming on Netflix.
